Being a brand new ly in real estate is hard. I know it. But I'd like to share some of the traits that we see with our most successful new lenses. Hey, my name is Chance Brown, the broker owner of CB&A Realtors, and we have a pretty robust mentorship program at our brokerage. By virtue of that, we get to see a lot of people come in. We get to see some people leave because they can't cut it. But what we look for in agents that are going to be successful are some pretty consistent traits. and they hold true almost universally. The first one I want to talk about is people who have the right mindset. They need to have an entrepreneurial mindset. A mindset that what they put into it is what they'll get out of it. That come in open to learning, open to trying new things and want to be the best that they can be.
That mindset is going to be super important because this is a tough business to break into. It's easy to get down. It's easy to take all the rejection. It's easy to get mad because you've worked three open houses and seen one person and all three of them. And that just sometimes happens and you just have to keep getting up and going after it. So that mindset piece is really important. The second one is discipline. Are you disciplined enough to get up and go to work every day? Are you disciplined enough to make the 5 to 10 phone calls a day that you need to make or to do the open houses to do all of these things? Or are you now self-employed, which means you're going to get up when you want, maybe have some breakfast and do some laundry with the TV on, check your social media, and make sure you hit like a few times and a comment and call that a morning because that's not you've got to get up and actually do the work. And you've got to do the tasks consistently, repetitively, and it's boring. But I've mentioned it in videos in the past, the agents who do boring best are the agents who win all the time in this business. The next one is you've got to be coachable. You can't come into this with an ego that you know everything or that because your parent was a Realtor or your grandparent was a Realtor that you've got this. If we know nothing else, the last few years have told us that everything is constantly changing all the time. And you've got to have coaches. You've got to have mentors. You've got to have people in your life who are going to help give you the direction that you need. And you've got to trust that those people know what they're doing and just go with the process. One of the things we get the most push back about is literally writing two personal notes a day. We ask all of our new licences to write and mail two personal notes a day. And the first thing they do is overthink the [ __ ] out of it. Like I've got to have some grandiose reason to write a thank you note or write a personal note. Nope.
Just write, "Hey, I was thinking about you. Hope you all are doing well." And send it. Just that in and of itself is not going to get you a real estate transaction. But when you do it every single day and you do it every day for a month and you do it every day for a year and now all of a sudden instead of two, you've sent 250. We're talking about real connection with people that means something to them that results in referrals, that results in business when the time comes. And being able to see further down the road and having a coach show you that is so important. Next one up is you have to be actionoriented. You can't sit around in real estate and wait for the transactions to come to you. You can't sit around in real estate and do nothing because, oh, my friend didn't call me back, so I'll just sit here and wait and hopefully a real estate transaction will just show up at my front door knocking with a bow on it.
