Weekend Challenge - Do Nothing

From the archive. I first wrote this in August 2014 on my old blog. Some of the tools, names, and numbers have changed since, but most of it holds up.
I've been searching for a way to justify doing nothing on a weekend for a long time. To date, my wife has shot all of them down. Oh, but now, I have science in my corner. Surely, she can't argue with science, right?
The other night I was watching a TED Talk with a guy named Andy Puddicombe talking about meditation. His 9 minute talk (link below) was about taking 10 minutes a day to do absolutely nothing. Just ten minutes. I'm pretty sure my wife will let me get away with ten minutes. The idea behind the ten minute break is simple. Your brain works all day. Every stinking moment of every stinking day. Take ten minutes each day to give it some rest. Focus on nothing but the present. Let the thoughts that are fighting to get in just pass by.
Incense, sitting cross-legged, and chanting are totally optional.
Have a great weekend!
